Care home manager jobs are publicised through online agencies
I have been working in the care industry and in home manager jobs for over twenty years. I started as a project worker back in the late Eighties. Since then I have continued in this career, and eventually I worked my way into various care home manager jobs and nursing home manager jobs. Most recently, my career has started to progress really quickly, thanks to always keeping a close eye on care career agency websites.
When I left school at sixteen, I had not yet thought about any career at all, let alone a career in care work. My Dad was a local butcher and I started helping him full time. I enjoyed feeling close to my local community, and providing a good, traditional service to the people in it, but it did not take me very long to discover that I wanted something more in my working life. I wanted to do real good, and help people who really needed the help. It was not enough just to exchange pleasantries with neighbours as they popped round to pick up their leg of lamb, or pork joint, nice though that was. I had a long chat with my Dad, and he was very supportive. It was he who suggested I try to help with care in the community; he said that it sounded like my ideal job, and that I had the people skills to do it.
My first care job was as a junior project worker in a psychiatric hospital with thirty or so patients, all suffering from different mental afflictions. It was really overwhelming at first. I remember my first few days, and how I was always asking myself what to do. The patients were so unpredictable and I thought I wouldn’t be able to carry on. Luckily, I had a supportive manager who told me to stick it out, so that is what I did.
After a while I started to recognise the behaviour patterns of patients, and they in turn came to recognise me and get to know me. I stayed in that job for a few years, and I was really happy with it, but eventually I moved on to a different kind of home, where I was given the opportunity to study for a degree in learning disabilities nursing, and lots of other training, so that eventually I was qualified for care home manager jobs. That’s when my career took off, and I started using agencies, just to keep an eye on any nursing home manager jobs available, and that’s how I found my current job: just by looking through available home manager jobs.
